Bembridge Sailing Club, though founded in 1886 by Colonel Macdonald Moreton and Captain Ernest Du Boulay (to provide an alternative to playing golf at the Royal Isle of Wight Golf Club!), only adopted the name three years later in 1889. The medal is believed to date from around that period.
