UNITED KINGDOM. ALDERNEY. Elizabeth II, 1952-.
Gold 5 pounds, 2019. The Commonwealth Mint. Proof Una & the Lion.
Proof 'Una & the Lion', using the original image from William Wyon's famous reverse design on the Victoria 5 Pound proof 1839._x000D_
The depiction of Victoria as Lady Una, calmly directing the enormous beast by her side, the Lion (representing England), was a clever analogy, using the characters from Edmund Spenser's poem The Faerie Queene (written in 1590). It was the first time in history a British monarch was depicted on a coin as a fictional character. The Alderney 5 pound is certainly equally as impressive as the Royal Mint's version and it is in our opinion vastly underrated. Considering the relative affordability of this coin, it seems to offer an attractive investment proposition to the collector-investor of top British material.
