C. Egnatius Cn. f. Cn. n. Maxsumus. AR Denarius, 75 BC. Obv. MAXSVMVS. Diademed and draped bust of Libertas right; behind, pileus. Rev. Roma and Venus each holding staff in right hand; Roma holds sword in left hand and places left foot on wolf's head; Venus has Cupid about to alight on shoulder; on either side, rudder set on prow; below C EGNATIVS CN. F.; on right, CN. N. Cr. 391/3. B. 2. AR. 3.99 g. 19.00 mm. R. Rare, full weight and broad flan. From a spectacularly detailed reverse die and with superb black toning. Gash on obverse (possibly an 'adjustment al marco') and minor area of flatness on reverse, otherwise about EF.
