HUNNIC TRIBES, Western Turks. Yabghu of the Bactrians, circa 650-700. Drachm (Silver, 33 mm, 4.06 g, 4 h), uncertain mint in Baktria or Zabulistan. Draped and bearded Sasanian style bust of Yabghu to right, wearing crown with two crescent attached to diadem and buffalo's head flanked by wings; behind head, blundered NYCKY MLKA ('Nezak King' in Pahlawi); before head, YBGW BHLK'N ('Yabghu of the Bactrians' in Pahlawi); in outer margins, three tamgha-in-crescent. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; to left, blundered date in Pahlawi, possibly RY 15; to right, Z'WLST ('Zabulistan' in Pahlawi). Göbl -. Vondrovec, Type 265A. Nicely toned and very sharply struck, a beautiful coin. Extremely fine.
