SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos, late 2nd century-64 BC. Weight of 1/4 Mina (Tetarton) (Lead, 60x63 mm, 171.72 g). BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ANTIOXOY Seleukid anchor. Rev. Latticework design. Cf. Pondera 12807 (1/8 Mina). A beautifully produced and unusually well preserved royal Seleukid weight. Minor scuff on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
Unfortunately, the plain name 'Antiochos', curiously spelled in retrograde letters but without any epithets, prevents an attribution of this beautiful weight to a specific Seleukid king. However, its style and fabric date it to the later period of the kingdom, specifically to the late 2nd and first half of the 1st century BC.
