Neophytos, bishop of Berinopolis, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 25 mm, 6.59 g, 12 h). KЄ R, ... - M - ΘV The Mother of God "Nikopoios", nimbate, holding medallion of Christ with both hands. Rev. +NЄⲰ/[Φ]VTⲰ ЄΠ/[IC]KⲰΠO / [RH]PINOΠ/[O]ΛЄ[ⲰC] in five lines, decorations above and below. Unpublished in the standard references. Somewhat rough, otherwise, good fine.

This seal likely belongs to one of two bishoprics bearing the name Berinopolis, both of which are named after Verina, wife of the emperor Leo (457-474). The first was suffragan of the metropolis of Ancyra in Galatia, whereas the second was suffragan of Ikonion in Lykaonia. The exact location of either of these places is unknown. Few bishops of Berinopolis are known by name, but Laurent published the seals of Johannes (Corpus V/1, 876) and of Andronikos (Corpus V/3, 1805 = DO Seals 103.1).
