CRUSADERS. Antioch. Bohémond III, 1163-1201. Denier (Silver, 12 mm, 0.32 g). Bearded head of a knight to left, wearing helmet decorated by cross; to left, cross. Rev. Cross pattée in center; in upper field to right, crescent downward. CCS -. Metcalf , Crusades, -. Wäckerlin 148. Darkly toned. Heavily clipped, otherwise, very fine.
The frequent appearance of carefully clipped deniers of Bohémond III perhaps indicates that the cutting to a size of an 'obol' was done officially by the mint of Antioch.
