INDIA, Post-Mauryan (Punjab). Taxila (local coinage). AE (Bronze, 18x19 mm, 5.08 g), Taxila city state (Pushkalavati), circa 185-170 BC. Chakra (sacred wheel) with 3-arched hill above. Rev. 'PANCHANEKAME' ('the Five Guilds' in Kharosthi) Swastika with nandipada on each side. HGC 12, 824. MACW 4423. Holed, otherwise, about very fine.
From a collection of coins from Central Asia.
This issue was struck by the trading guilds in Taxila for local circulation, as is indicated by the legend 'PANCHANEKAME' (the Five Guilds) on the reverse. The piercing of this example indicates that it was worn as a pendant.
