DEO CONSERVATORI AUGUSTIAE
In 1767, when smallpox attacked Vienna, Maria Theresa also fell ill, she became infected, comforting her daughter-in-law Maria Josephine (Joseph II's second wife), who, unfortunately, eventually died. When Maria Theresa recovered, she was ready to prepare for the marriage of her daughter Josephine to the King of Naples. Unfortunately, she demanded that Maria Josephine visit the grave of her recently deceased sister-in-law. After Josephine returned from visiting the grave, it turned out that she had caught smallpox there and died a few days later, at the age of only 16.
