SYRIA. Phoenicia. Tyre. AR Shekel (12.97 gms), dated CY 14 (113/2 B.C.). NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Edge Chip, Brushed, Scratches.
HGC-10, 357. Obverse: Laureate bust of Melkart right, with drapery tied around neck; Reverse: Eagle standing left on prow; palm frond behind; to left, ΔI (date) above downward club; monogram to right, Phoenician B between legs. An ever-popular type from a hotly collected series, this emission from the "thirty pieces of silver" in the Bible does exhibit some noted distractions, but nevertheless offers a well-centered, solid strike, as well as a clear date. Due to its edge chipping, NGC has elected not to holder, but simply photo certify.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
