Margolis, Ross & Sobin on Napoleonic Coinage
Margolis, Richard, John Ross, and George Sobin, Jr. ARTICLES AND LETTERS RELATING TO NAPOLEONIC COINAGE ISSUES AND MINTAGE FIGURES. Bound volume bringing together the following, all of which were published in the bulletin of the Société Américaine pour l'Étude de la Numismatique Française between 1974 and 1977: Margolis's 1974 "The Napoleonic Regular Issues: A Brief Look at an Imposing Series"; Ross's substantive 1975 commentary on Margolis's article; Margolis's reply to Ross's comments; Sobin's commentary on both Margolis and Ross; and Ross's lengthy 1977 "A Review of Mintage Figures: Consulate and Empire-An XI to 1815." 4to, later brown half morocco; spine lettered in gilt; original printed paper covers bound in. Extraneous pages of issues excised or pasted over. Fine. Richard Margolis's specially bound copy of his important 1975 article teasing apart the complexities of the Napoleonic coinages, along with the detailed and interesting observations it elicited from John Ross and George Sobin, and Ross's later examination of the same coinage, focusing on the mintage figures. Margolis took special pride in his article and the further work it engendered.
