Illustrated Report on Droz's Innovations in Coining
Prony, et al. RAPPORT FAIT A LA CLASSE DES SCIENCES MATHÉMATIQUES ET PHYSIQUES DE L'INSTITUT NATIONAL, SUR DIVERSES INVENTIONS DE JEAN-PIERRE DROZ, RELATIVES A L'ART DU MONNOYAGE. Paris: Baudouin, Imprimeur de l'Institut National, Nivôse An XI [décembre 1802–janvier 1803]. 4to, self-covered and stitched, as issued. (4), 59, (1) pages; 4 large folding engraved plates signed by E. Collin, depicting coining presses and equipment, including Droz's segmented collar. Original paper covers worn; contents very good or better. An important publication, very rarely available. Matthew Boulton had this report translated into English for his own use: see the bound archives in Part Five of this sale. The plates are large and very interesting, being entirely devoted to coining technology, including the segmented collar Droz designed and which the Boulton firm continued to use even after it had been improved upon by James Lawson.
