The Sobin Reference & Collection
Sobin, George. PUBLICATIONS BY GEORGE SOBIN AND CATALOGUES OF HIS COLLECTION. As follows: Sobin, George, Jr. THE SILVER CROWNS OF FRANCE 1641–1973. Teaneck, 1974. 8vo, original blue cloth lettered in silver. viii, 259 pages; illustrated. Inscribed by the author to Richard Margolis. Fine. A presentation copy inscribed by the author to the publisher, Richard Margolis. The inscription reads: "To Richard Margolis: Like climbing Mt Everest, a long ascent but worth the view. 26 Decembre, 1974 (signed) George Sobin, Jr." A few inserts are laid in, mostly tributes to Sobin published after his death in 2005. Lepczyk, Joseph. THE GEORGE SOBIN COLLECTION OF FRENCH ECUS. Chicago, March 7–8, 1977. 8vo, original printed card covers. 213, (3) pages; 1336 lots; well illustrated. Original prices realized list laid in. Annotated throughout in pencil, recording prices, bidder numbers, his own bids (usually in code), and occasional comments. Laid in are commission bids given to Margolis to be placed at the sale, including bidsheets from Münzen & Medaillen (Basel), Catherine Bullowa and Félix Couchard, as well as notes on his own bids. Taped at spine; very good. Margolis's extensive annotations are interesting and informative, and the catalogue, with its various inserts, encompasses a small archive on the sale of this important collection. Lepczyk, Joseph.
