Nürnberg und Berlin, c. 1900. 179 fine collotype plates [31.5 by 24 cm] numbered 1–179, depicting medals numbered 1–1660, printed in several different tints. Housed in the original green portfolio, intricately stamped in black and gilt, and accompanied by a 22-page printed listing of the medals available and their prices [booklet is actually 30 pages, but includes duplicate leaves]. Portfolio a bit worn with some internal repairs. Plates and text generally near fine. A Sample Book for the Lauer firm of medalists, complete with the full complement of plates and the text, all housed within the original portfolio. Designed to show clients the wide variety of design elements utilized by the Lauer firm. Rarely offered, and most interesting to those studying modern European medals. These books were issued with varying numbers of plates; while we have handled later emissions with plates numbered as high as 192, none of them have been complete.
