London: John Russell Smith, 1877. 4to, contemporary brown half calf with decorative sides; spine with five raised bands, decorated in blind and dated in gilt; red spine label, gilt; marbled endpapers; top page edges gilt. (2), ix, (3), 230 pages; title and chapter headings, etc., printed in red and black ink; 8 superb autotype plates. Foxed occasionally, but quite heavily in places. Two additional engraved portraits of Cromwell laid in. Very good or better. A very scarce and still important work, which remains the only comprehensive exposition on the topic. Intended to be issued by subscription, and limited to 250 copies, it is likely that far fewer copies of this work were actually printed. Manville 90. Sigler 1204.
