Crown 4to, original full green morocco, both sides bordered in black, front with sigla of the Order of Malta in gilt and white; spine ruled in black, lettered and decorated in gilt. (2), xii, 262 pages; 22 + 25 + 33 + 4 plates [84 total]. Inscribed by the author to H.E. General H. Fane Grant CB and Mrs. Grant on 26 March 1908. Binding rubbed and worn, with spine faded to brown, though still rather attractive. Very good or so. The very scarce first edition of this classic work, in a handsome if worn binding. This copy was presented by the author to General Sir Henry Fane Grant, the Governor of Malta at the time of publication, and to Mrs. Grant. Clain-Stefanelli 10745*. Grierson 210.
