The Scarce Continuation to Van Loon, Untrimmed in Ten Volumes

Amsterdam: Pieper en Ipenbuur; Ipenbuur & Van Seldam; & Frederik Muller, 1822–1869. Ten parts, complete. Folio [first five volume approximately 46 by 30 cm; second five closer to 40.5 by 27 cm], contemporary marbled pasteboard bindings with printed spine labels. (2), 70, (8) + (2), viii, 71–132, (8) + (4), 133–212, (12) + (2), vi, 213–358, (14) + (6), 359–456, (8) + (2), vi, 77, (3) + (2), 79–140; (2), 141–251, (1) + (2), 253–377, (1) + (2), 379–536, liv, (2), (2) pages; 88 fine plates of medals [Nos. 1–36 are finely engraved by various artists; Nos. 37–88 are lithographs]. Some staining, mostly marginal, to second volume; sixth volume with front board loose and signature detached (but entirely present); sixth and eighth volumes with paper coverings to spines; final volume rebacked in brown cloth. Bindings a bit worn, with some cracking and rubbing, but on the whole a very original set, untrimmed, and in what are very probably the original bindings. Very good or better. The very scarce ten-part continuation to Van Loon (vide supra), providing coverage to the beginning of the nineteenth century. Clain-Stefanelli 14847.
