Rare Raymond Serrure Catalogues
Serrure, Raymond. AUCTION CATALOGUES OF FRENCH COINS, JETONS AND MEDALS. Eight catalogues of sales held in Paris, dated: 7 juillet 1896 (hand-priced, three plates); 23 novembre 1896 (2 plates); 17 décembre 1896 (partly priced, 1 plate); 24–26 février 1897 (2 plates); 5 octobre 1897 (partly priced); 29 avril 1898 (partly priced); 6–7 mars 1899 (1 plate); and 25 mai 1899 (partly priced, 1 plate). All small 8vo, original printed paper or card covers, as issued. Generally near fine. Very scarce sales by a talented numismatist whose life was cut tragically short. Raymond-Constant Serrure (1862–1899) was the author of several important works with Arthur Engel, having begun his numismatic career as the protégé of Charles Robert. His coin firm was continued for many years by his widow (see next).
