A Beautifully Bound Complete Set
Scott & Co., et al. THE COIN COLLECTOR'S JOURNAL. ILLUSTRATED. Volumes 1–13 (New York, 1875–1888), complete, bound in six. 8vo, later matching dark blue full morocco; spines with four raised bands, ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt; maroon spine labels, gilt; marbled endpapers; page edges speckled blue. Each binding individually housed in matching blue cloth slipcases. 2544 pages plus indexes; numerous text illustrations. Unobtrusively trimmed. A fine set, very attractively bound. A superb set, bound by Alan Grace. Edited first by Ed Frossard and later by David Proskey, Scott's Coin Collector's Journal is one of the great nineteenth-century American numismatic periodicals. While publications like Frossard's Numisma may be more entertaining to read, the Coin Collector's Journal provides more solid numismatic information on a wide variety of topics than any other commercial publication of the day. Clain-Stefanelli 485. Ex 1992 Joint Kolbe/Spink New York Book Auction, lot 132.
