Kraft Collection of Trial Pieces
Kraft, Raoul. ÉPREUVES DE GRAVEURS EN ÉTAIN, LOUIS XVIII–CHARLES X. Undated manuscript, produced prior to April 1957. 4to, later brown quarter calf; front cover and spine lettered in gilt; original hand-lettered card covers bound in. 4 leaves of handwritten text followed by 4 leaves on which have been mounted 76 carefully clipped black and white photographs of one or two sides of 61 different trial strikings in white metal. Fine. According to Richard E. Margolis's handwritten note on the title page: "This collection of white metal trial pieces was acquired by Mr. Raoul C. Kraft of Geneva in France, and subsequently sold to Richard Margolis & Henry Kotzen in April 1957 at his cost... There are 76 pieces listed in this catalogue, which was prepared by Mr. Kraft, but according to my letter to Mr. Kraft of May 1, 1957 there were 79 pieces in the group, of which I kept 27 (all Louis XVIII except 3 Mint visits) and HK took 52 (all Charles X plus three Louis XVIII Mint visits)."
