Later Inventory of the Raoul C. Kraft Collection
Kraft, Raoul C. COLLECTION RAOUL C. CRAFT. RÉVOLUTION FRANÇAISE / CONSULAT, 1789–AN 14. MONNAIES, ESSAIES, MÉDAILLES, ÉPREUVES DE GRAVEURS, CONTREMARQUES. DESSINS ORIGINAUX, DOCUMENTS. (Geneva, 1960.) 4to, later blue half calf; upper cover and spine lettered in gilt. Small frontispiece photo pasted in; 55 typewritten leaves. Occasional annotations. Fine. Also included is Margolis's bound copy of the relevant pages and plates of the November 1964 M&M sale of the Kraft collection, hand-priced. According to Richard E. Margolis's handwritten note on the title page: "Typescript listing (bound by REM) of Raoul Kraft's collection, prepared by Mr Kraft, most likely in 1960, when he was negotiating to sell it to Münzen und Medaillen of Basel. The collection was sold to M. & M. who, much to Mr Kraft's dismay, selected the 'cream' of the coins & essays to sell in their Nov. 1961 auction sale & dispersed the rest of the collection privately. The designs & documents were sold to the Musée Monétaire, Paris, & REM was able to purchase from M&M en bloc Nov. 27, 1962 a large group (some 146*) of 'lesser' essays & trial pieces including most of the uniface white metal ones. *some 24 are cast concoctions (fakes)."
