Conbrouse's Rare Décaméron
Conbrouse, Guillaume. DÉCAMÉRON NUMISMATIQUE: NOTE BIBLIOGRAPHIQUE SUR L'OUVRAGE INTITULÉ: CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ DES MONNAIES NATIONALES DE FRANCE. Paris: H. Fournier et Cie., 1844. Folio [32 by 25 cm], contemporary red quarter calf with decoratively blindstamped sides; spine with four raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt; marbled endpapers. (4), 231, (1), pages; half-title and colophon printed in red; title printed in red and gold. Untrimmed. Binding somewhat worn, with spine cracked near tail and with corners worn. Contents near fine, with light marginal spotting. Very rare, being one of only 109 copies printed. Intended to be a supplement of sorts to Conbrouse's 1839–1841 Catalogue raisonné des monnaies nationales de France, the present volume includes indexes of coin legends, a listing of Merovingian rulers, inventories of notable collections, monetary documents, genealogical notes, and much else, spanning French coinage from the Merovingian era to the time of publication. Engel & Serrure 1691: "Ce livre, d'une forme singulière, est composé d'une notice bibliographique sur les publications de Combrouse, destinée à les mettre en ordre au reliage; d'inventaires des raretés monétaires de plusieurs cabinets, d'index, de légendes, etc."
