[BOSO FECIT, recumbent S, anchor cross atop globe, 1.20g, 270° (SCBI 69, 1089 this coin; cf. Stylistically this coin is a close parallel to a coin that surfaced in 1949 at a Münzen und Medaillen Sale (8-10 December 1949, lot 386), and another example sold more recently in Monaco (15 November 2018, lot 318, refer EMC 2006.0301), both bearing the obverse reading 'VERITO V[IC]' attributed to Veretz (Indre-et-Loire). Similarly a coin of Anguilfus found in the cabinet of the Musée Calvet depicts a similarly crude portrait with the legend [...]IANIS which has been attributed to the mint of Orléans, pointing to this series having been struck in central France. However, as Arent Pol (pers. comms) has noted, the 'croix ancrée' type is indigenous to Neustria, somewhat to the north of Dun-le-Poëllier rendering absolute attribution uncertain.
Estimate: £1500 - £1200
