Anglo-Saxon England, Secondary Series (710-760), Sceat, Series K/N, type 16/41, variety 6, standing figure in cynehelm looking right, wearing cross-hatched tabard and flared tunic, holding long cross pommée in both hands right, arabesque of foliage left, feet splayed rev. larger crested monster recumbent and roaring right, head raised and looking back, crest right envelopes body, gaping jaws, pellet outline, curled tail raised, clawed feet below monster, 1.07g, 90° (SL 37-30 plate coin; SCBI 69, 543 this coin; Abramson, 2008, Fig 30; T&S pp. 444-5, 352-3; SEMC1; Gannon 87, Fig. 3.10b; Spink 828 plate coin), slight surface porosity, otherwise about very fine and extremely rare.
