Visigoths, Pseudo-Imperial (c. 500-550), AV Tremissis, in the style of Anastasius, 'Victory' type, ANAS-TASIVS, diademed and draped bust right, rev. VI[IO?][ ]AIIVI, Victory, head right, CONO in exergue, 1.43g, 180° (SCBI 69, 1072 this coin), some gouging to reverse which is a little off-struck, otherwise about very fine.

Inspired by a prototype from the Emperor Anastasius (491-518), this imitative coinage has traditionally been attributed to the Visigoths. However the evidently crude styling and corrupted legends perhaps suggest an Aquitanian emission - an area seized by the Franks after the battle of Vouillé in AD 507. It is also significant that this example omits D N (Dominus Noster), rendering it amongst a select few varieties known from contemporary Western imitations.
