The Rare MS-62 Double Eagle 1853
Metal: Gold (0.900). Weight: 33.44 grams. Diametre: 34 mm.
The 1853 mintage was the half of the 1851 and 1852 Philadelphia issues. There were still more than one million coins struck. Therefore 1853 might be wrongly considered as a common date.
The 1853 is quite easy to find in average or low grades (VF/EF). Coming to mint state the 1853 becomes far more elusive. Resubmissions to PCGS & NGC dwindle significantly the number of coins in mint state.
Not more than 30-40 different 1853 (including this one) in mint state can be accounted.
A rare opportunity for all collectors to significantly improve their collection.
