OPENING OF THE NEW COAL EXCHANGE, London, 1849, in bronze (89mm) by Benjamin Wyon, obverse, bust of Queen Victoria left in centre medallion, surrounded by busts of Prince Albert, Prince Albert Edward Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal within medallions, inscription around, reverse, detailed view of the Coal Exchange interior within ornamemtal border, City of London shield and motto below, issued by the Corporation of London, in case of issue gold blocked on outside of lid 'In Commemoration Of/The Opening of/The New Coal Exchange/MDCCCXLIX' within open floral wreath (Eimer 1435, BHM 2357). Nearly FDC.
Together with five printed items including large invitation (25.3x33.3cm) from the Corporation of London to the opening of the New Coal Exchange by Her Majesty Queen Victoria, on Tuesday 30th October, 1849, black print on heavy white card, vignette of Coal Exchange building in centre, embossed ornamental border around inner edge and Corporation of London Arms above; Admittance card (27.5x22.6cm) issued to Mr D.J.McLauchlan and a Lady to the Dinner at Guildhall on Friday, the 9th November 1849, The Right Honorable Thomas Farncomb, Lord Mayor, William Lawrence Esq.Ald.& Donald Nicoll, Esq, Sheriffs, printed by De La Rue & Co, brown print on green card within gold embossed ornamental border and Coat of Arms at top, red seal at left; Admittance, on fine paper (18x22cm) to W.McLauchlan and Lady, to the Ceremony of Opening The New Coal Exchange, on Tuesday 30th October, 1849, coloured drawing of floral fossil remains in centre, black on cream within intricate paper lace border, on reverse a map of the City of London with the River Thames; Banquet at Guildhall, 9th November, 1861, Description of the Embellishments and Decorations, from the Designs, of J.B.Bunning, Esq., F.S.A., Architect to the Corporation of the City of London; Bill of Fare, Guildhall, Lord Mayor's Day, Saturday November 9th, 1861. Corner creases and light foxing to edges on first item, some foxing on third item, otherwise good extremely fine, the first three items rare, as a lot with the medal and case very rare.
