The Royal Humane Society of Australasia requested details of instances of courageous acts by those attempting rescues with the intent to make Society awards to them. John Danson died on 26 September 1933 and is buried at the Mount Mulligan Cemetery in the Mareeba Shire of Queensland. The cemetery was established following the mine disaster.
