JAPAN. Oban (10 Ryo), ND Keicho Era (ca. 1601-95). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
Fr-3; JNDA-09-5 (2A); cf. Bank of Japan-Vol. 2 # 12; JV-A3; Hartill-8.6. Weight: 164.97 gms. 153.84 x 98.41 mm. Mintage: 16,565. Crude security edge. A lovely representative of this seldom encountered type that displays light signs of handling with a mostly intact ink signature. The hammer marks, though erratic and uneven, appear to have been applied in a similar fashion to the previous eras (Tensho) Obans with somewhat uneven Kiri stamps, each with varying degrees of flatness. A small circular stamp with three dots in a triangular formation appears on the reverse on the lower left side with an additional small punch mark on the obverse that is well-hidden within the signature. Sure to excite collectors, this example on the whole is highly attractive with a rich mottled patina that is both original and attractive.

From the Pinnacle Collection.

Estimate: $35000.00- $50000.00
