JAPAN. Koban (1 Ryo), ND Hoei Era (ca. 1710-14). PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield.
Fr-11; JNDA-09-15 (10); Bank of Japan-Vol. 3-Unlisted; JV-B103; Hartill-8.18. Weight: 9.36 gms. 60.37 x 33.27 mm. A lovely survivor of a SCARCE, short-lived type that seldom appears on the market in this high state of preservation and exhibits satiny surfaces that show light signs of handling and a few insignificant abrasions. The stamps on the obverse are quite strong with bold features and frosty fields and the delicate chisel marks appear in four uneven columns. The reverse stamps are all slightly uneven, each with minor areas of flatness. The highest points of the stamps and characteristic rough surfaces on the corresponding areas of several of the stamps exhibit evidence of friction contained to the highest points. The reverse does exhibit a couple of small unobtrusive chopmarks mentioned for accuracy, but they are hardly a distraction and are far less than are normally encountered for this desirable issue. This attractive representative offers a pleasing appearance that is certain to catch the attention of many collectors with a discerning eye.

From the Pinnacle Collection.

Estimate: $7000.00- $10000.00
