CAMBODIA. Gold 4 Francs Pattern, 1860. Norodom I. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield.
Fr-2a; KMX-Pn10; Lec-81a. Technically an off-metal restrike and not a pattern, this RARE issue was likely struck in the latter portion of the 19th century from dies that were used to originally produce the silver 4 Francs. Those dies, not particularly well-kept and significantly rusted during the interim, resulted in striking that display significant granularity. Close inspection reveals a few marks that are concealed within Norodom's portrait and contribute to the assigned near-Mint grade.
