IRAN. 25 Toman, AH 1301-B (1883/4). Tehran Mint. Nasir al-Din Shah. NGC Unc Details--Tooled.
Fr-58; KMX-8. Weight: 71.41 gms. Brussels mint reverse die. EXCEEDINGLY RARE and highly elusive, this type exists in restrikes which come to the market from time to time, but original such as presented here are seldom seen. In recent memory, only the Adams specimen has crossed the auction block since this example's last appearance in 2002; the Adams piece, graded at the time in 2016 as "EF, with hints of deposits and edge marks at 7 o'clock on the reverse," realized a total of $54,000. This specimen, though noted on the holder as having tooling, doesn't really exhibit anything to indicate as such, though some lightly scattered marks and hairlines are observed. Exceptionally lustrous and sharp, with great brilliance and assuredly an impressive and monumental piece.
