(t) CHINA. Qing Dynasty. 50 Cash, ND (ca. March 1854-July 1855). Board of Revenue Mint, western branch. Emperor Wen Zong (Xian Feng). Certified "78" by Zhong Qian Ping Ji Grading Company.
Hartill-22.707. Weight: 46.1 gms. Fou bao, seven stroke bei. "Xian Feng zhong bao"; Reverse: "Dang wushi". This nice preserved and charming example displays rich brown patination with minor earthen deposits amongst the devices and crevasses offering much originality. The strokes in the high relief calligraphy are a bit thicker than seen on other examples of this type and the characters are less defined. The high points and rims show much evidence of the finishing process with many parallel striations from filing. Several small natural planchet voids are noticed on the rims near the character "Feng" on the obverse and "Shi" on the reverse mentioned for accuracy, but are hardly distracting.
Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
