(t) CHINA. Silver "American Design" Dollar Pattern, Year 18 (1929). Hangchow Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.
L&M-95; K-616; KM-Pn100; WS-0139. The American design from the Philadelphia Mint, but struck in China at the Hangchow Mint. This highly attractive and brilliant flashy pattern is always heavily sought after when coming to market, depicting the American rendition of the expressive portrait of Dr. Sun Yat sen. The contrasting surface textures between the devices which are frosty and the fields which exhibit much reflectivity, though the open areas of the reverse are slightly muted from light delicate patina, offer an eye catching appearance sure to grab the attention of many collectors.
In 1929, the Chinese Ministry of Finance ordered a new design for the then proposed Dr. Sun Yat-sen Dollar. Patterns were submitted from the world's five leading mints: Italy, Japan, England, United States and Austria. Upon completion, the various mints shipped the dies as well as samples of the new patterns to China.
Estimate: $20000.00- $30000.00
