(t) CHINA. Anhwei. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 24 (1898). PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield.
L&M-203; K-53; KM-Y-45.5; WS-1080. Variety with large rosettes and flat "Si" with rounded characters in the date. Tied for finest certified of the variety with two other example on the PCGS population report. This particularly attractive example boasts a strong full strike, smooth satiny surfaces and lovely cartwheel luster displaying eye catching rich mottled patination of lavender, lilac, cobalt and mid-night blue offering much originality. The pleasing appearance of this piece is indicative of prolonged storage under the right conditions clearly being plucked from circulation early on. Most issues from this province are usually heavily circulated, many with signs of maltreatment such as chopmarks or other mutilation, and as such the present survivor should be considered VERY RARE and highly desirable; especially so in this state of preservation. By and far, a vastly superior example than normally encountered certain to catch the attention of many collectors with discerning tastes destined for a fine numismatic cabinet.
