China / Ming Dynasty 1368-99 P-AA10 PMG Very Fine 20 1 Kuan
The earliest collectable banknote, dating back to the second half of the 14th century, and a grand banknote both in size and historical significance. A few small groups of these were found in various walls and statues in China, but obviously they are anything but common. What makes this one so special is the fact that PMG did not find anything negative worth remarking on the back of the holder, making this one entirely "problem-free". Most have tears, splits, damage or other issues and the number of problem-free pieces after 600+ years is minimal. The market is starting to get stronger on these iconic pieces so now might be the right time to pick one up.
