The Eccles Collection | Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, 'Pointed Helmet' type, c. 1053-1056, Ipswich, Wulfsige, rev. +PVLSIE ON GIPES, 1.31g, 8h (North 825; BMC VII; BEH ['Type F'] - [cf. 72]; Spink 1179), some minor peripheral striking softness, otherwise toned, almost extremely fine.
Possibly the example documented by Sir John Evans in the Numismatic Chronicle (1885, pp. 265) as being in his parcel from the Walbrook ['City of London'] or Queen Victoria Street Hoard uncovered in 1872. No parallel is to be found in the Lockett collection.
