John III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. AV Hyperpyron Nomisma (24mm, 3.42 g, 6h). Magnesia mint. Struck circa 1232-1254. Christ enthroned facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels / John, wearing loros and holding labarum and akakia, standing facing and being crowned and blessed by the Theotokos. DOC 12; SB 2073. Removed from mount, lightly clipped, bright surfaces, a couple of tiny natural holes in flan. Good VF.
