PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Chile. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, VF Details Gold Shield.
KM-108; Basso-43. Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. within circle applied to the reverse of an 1834-SANTIAGO IJ Chile Peso. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. A SCARCE host type for this countermark issue, especially when compared to most Mexican or Peruvian Republic host coins. The countermark itself is graded "EF Detail" and is boldly emplaced, while the coin is toned a pleasant medium to dark gray. The only drawback is the reverse, which exhibits some old scratches that are now toned along with the remainder of the surfaces.
