Professor Charles Frewen Jenkin, CBE, FRS (1865-1940). His early career was in the railways. In 1908 he was appointed to the then new Chair of Engineering Science at Oxford. In World War I he was responsible for aircraft materials. The Institute of Civil Engineers also awarded him their Telford gold medal and the Telford premium.
