(BHM.2549; Eimer 1487; Allen SY.1854/090; JT 171h), in maroon leather case of issue, maker's label in lid, 'AUTHORIZED MEDAL SOLD BY T. R. PINCHES & CO MEDALLISTS BY APPOINTMENT TO THE CRYSTAL PALACE COMPANY'; Calendar medal, 1858, by J. Pinches, the days of six months in squares to either side, 51mm., in maroon leather case of issue, both mint state, first rare thus and second extremely rare (2)
Over the years the obverse of the first would be reused repeatedly for prize medals, etc. (See also lot 313).
