SASANIAN KINGS. Hormizd II. AD. 303-309. AR Drachm (3.78 gm; 26 mm). Obverse: Hormizd II figure with standard eagle crown but with three dots instead of a single dot at the beak of the eagle. Reverse; standard issue with fire altar and attendants and figure in the altar facing forward! (typically turning right or left). Sharply struck on a nice flan. Choice EF. Toned. Extremely rare with three dots on the obverse. Three dots typically is associated with either 3 columns of Zoroastrian religion, Good deeds, Good Thoughts and Good words as well as birth of a child (the 3 being father, mother and child). There are many other associations in number three in many religions and school of thoughts one being "Past, Present, Future" and in Christianity, "The Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost" In addition the dots symbolizes drop of water which relates to the "Rites of Goddess Anahit".
