Nero. Denarius; Nero; 54-68 AD, after 67-8 AD, Denarius, 2.65g. Cf. RIC-68 (different obv. legend). Obv: NERO CAESAR - AVGVSTVS Head laureate r. Rx: Legionary eagle between two standards, no legend. Apparently an ancient counterfeit with the wrong obverse legend, but in official style and with a substantial silver content (72.6%). Ex Jyrki Muona Collection, with miniscule drill hole in edge, because the metallic composition of this coin was tested and published by K. Butcher and M. Ponting, Metallurgy of Roman Silver Coinage, Nero to Trajan, 2014, p. 706.. F
