Caria, Mausolus. Tetradrachm; Caria, Mausolus; 377-353 BC, Tetradrachm, 15.18g. Cf. Traité-93, pl. XC.5, and SNG Aulock-2360. Obv: Laureate head of Apollo facing 3/4 r. Rx: [M]AYSSO?[?O] downwards on r., Zeus Labraundos standing r., holding double ax and spear; small ? below his l. elbow, small M (or S downwards) between his lower legs and his spear. Acquired from Glenn Woods. The two cited examples have the same small ? below Zeus' left elbow as on ours, but not the additional small M or S downwards between his lower legs and his spear. This is an extremely beautiful example of this issue. The name mausoleum came from Mausolus. MS
