East Africa Government of the East Africa Protectorate 10 Rupees 1.7.1912 Pick 2A PCGS Very Fine 25. A rare, large-size uniface note issued under British administration of its East Africa colonies. Printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co., Ltd. on heavily watermarked paper. This item is the first date of the second Mombasa issue of 10 Rupees. All of these early issues are highly sought after and notes like this one are especially prized. It is cross-folded four times with a few corner folds. There is a tiny hole in the center and some soiling on the fold lines on the back, otherwise the paper is original with no tears, stains, graffiti or missing pieces typical of this issue. The face is bright and clean. This is an ex Ruth W. Hill Collection note and included with the note is some provenance, especially a letter to Mrs. Hill from B. M. Ishmail of The Standard Bank Ltd. of Zanzibar dated December 18, 1964, which inter alia thanks Mrs. Hill for purchasing the 10 Rupee note for $45.00 (!) and discusses the various banknotes issued under early British administration. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/east-africa-government-of-the-east-africa-protectorate-10-rupees-171912-pick-2a-pcgs-very-fine-25/a/4029-28224.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4029 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
