East Africa East African Currency Board 500 Florins = 50 Pounds 1.5.1920 Pick 12Bs Specimen PMG About Uncirculated 55. The simply beautiful but very short-lived 1920 series is among the most desirable of all world notes, due to their attractive design elements and tremendous rarity. The Florins / Pounds scheme was replaced by Shillings / Pounds notes in 1921, which makes the previous extremely scarce. The 500 Florins was the highest denomination of that series, and its issuance is questionable. Thankfully, a tiny number of Specimen have survived. At the time of cataloging, this is only the second example to be offered publicly, and the first since 2014. Additionally, this is one of only two examples graded in the PMG Population Report. The Thomas de la Rue design elements of this series are lauded as titans of banknote engravings, and for good reason. A tastefully applied perforated cancellation was placed atop printed signatures. A specimen serial number range of 10,000 pieces is indicated at front, although it is not confirmed that any of these notes were actually issued. Printer notations in the top margin are typical of TDLR prototypes and Specimen. One of the most important offerings in this auction and assuredly missing from even the most advanced collections. Worthy of serious consideration. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/east-africa-east-african-currency-board-500-florins-50-pounds-151920-pick-12bs-specimen-pmg-about-uncirculated/a/4029-28231.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4029 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
