France, Mayence, Siege Issue, banknote, 20 Livres over 10 Livres, 1793, 20 Livres handwritten on the reverse of a 10 Livres banknote of December 16th 1791 (S.1472). Some tears to centre, otherwise good fine.

This is a rare example of the first issue of notes issued when the city was faced with the need to pay the French garrison in Mayence to defend against the predominantly Prussian allied troops.
