Copper and nickel-plated handled nutcrackers, marked with Cunard Steamship logo and Elkington Plate stamps, ex-Aurania (1918).168 grams, 5-1/4" long.Cleverly designed cracker which swivels and can crack nuts on either surface, silver plated with most of plating gone and matte gold base metal, fully functional, rare provenance as from the Aurania, a World War I troop carrier torpedoed by German U-boats off Ireland on February 4, 1918, and subsequently sunk near the Island of Mull, Scotland, after being towed there, her silver room (which held these nutcrackers) not reached by salvors until 1980.From the S.S.
