Popayan, Colombia, gold 8 escudos, 1822FM, NGC MS 61 ("top pop"), ex-Eldorado.Sed-7; Restrepo-166.1; KM-82.2.Very bold strike, lovely toning over brilliant luster, faint surface hairlines and slightly crude rims, rated as RR in Sedwick, tied with one other for finest known in NGC census (the single MS61 at PCGS being this same coin crossed-over).Pedigreed to the Esmeralda Collection (stated on special label) and to the Eldorado Collection (Stack's Bowers auction of January 2018, lot 12106), also to the Ponterio auction of December 1984 (lot 773).
