João VI 640 Reis 1818-M AU53 NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM325.1, LMB-482, Bentes-445.01. An exceptionally rare Minas Gerais silver issue by the famed mint, where a significant percentage of early Brazilian gold coinage was struck. A bewitching and conservatively graded specimen boasting slight weakness in the crown and outer registers, but exhibiting strong central devices and a fully applied "M" mintmark, commonly faintly struck in this emission. Draped in allover amber, russet, and mulberry hues, obscuring the lightest degree of handling evident only to the highest points. NGC notes only one finer, an AU55, offered by Heritage in 2012, and one lesser, an XF45 Heritage also sold, in 2010 as part of the Paulistana Collection. A scarce opportunity to acquire this elusive type, and one that is sure not to be missed.
